In 2019, to celebrate the official release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Xbox commissioned the UK creative agency Takeoff Studios to customize 12 exclusive Xbox One consoles. Some of these units were used for Activision's global offline PR events, while the rest were given away through sweepstakes, making them extremely rare collectible items.
As a result, whenever such consoles appear on eBay, they often fetch high prices. However, due to the extremely limited supply, such transactions are themselves quite rare. Nevertheless, last weekend, seller neoframe listed one of these limited-edition consoles with an asking price as high as $11,999. The listing has already attracted significant attention, garnering over 3,000 views in a single day and being added to favorites by 9 users.
In the product description, seller neoframe wrote: "Hello everyone, today I am selling a very special collectible: a Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice limited edition Microsoft Xbox One X 1TB console. According to the marketing agency responsible for its production, only 12 units were made to promote the game back then. This console is in excellent condition and has never been officially used—it boots directly into the initial device setup screen, which proves this point."
The seller added: "After seven years of storage, the console has some cosmetic flaws. The paint on the four pillars holding the katana has worn away, exposing the wooden base underneath. However, the base has built-in magnets and can still securely hold the katana, so it doesn't affect the display. There are two small scratches on the right grip of the controller. Additionally, before I acquired this console, it seems someone filled part of the katana's hilt with hot glue."
The seller, neoframe, stated they are "very open to negotiation" and claimed that prior to this, there had been only one recorded sale of the same limited-edition console on the market. I cannot fully verify this claim, but Consolevariations, a website dedicated to cataloging rare custom consoles, does record a listing for the same item on eBay. The same seller also posted the item on the Polish collector site Kolekcjonerki in 2022, though it was taken down after just four days.
Given that only 12 units of this console were ever produced, it's no surprise that the seller has set a high price targeting seasoned collectors. However, whether this console will ultimately sell for $12,000 remains to be seen.
