·The biggest difference between Japan's gaming market and those of other countries may be the general lack of interest in PC games. It is commonly believed that Japanese players prefer consoles and mobile games. Recently, viviON released the latest survey on former PC players in Japan, showing that one in five people aged 20 to 59 in Japan used to be PC players.
·Note that "former PC players" refers to those who have essentially given up on PC gaming. This suggests there is some basis for the perception that Japanese players are not particularly fond of the PC platform. The total number of people in this group has reached 11.7 million.
·This results in an estimated annual indirect economic loss of approximately 100 billion yen from abandoning PC gaming, including spending on games, DLC, and in-game microtransactions.
·As for the reasons behind quitting PC gaming, starting a new job or changing careers ranks highest at 33.7%, followed by advancing to higher education or graduating. The third most common reason is raising children, while marriage surprisingly ranks fourth. Overall, these factors are largely tied to major life changes.
