New Concept Art for Chinese Blockbuster "Gujian" Showcases High-Freedom Combat System

Recently, the official team behind the Unreal Engine 5 Chinese-style action RPG Gu Jian shared new environment art, revealing the "Realm of Annihilation (Realm of Oblivion)," where the worlds of the living and the dead intersect. This area is filled with reeds and spider lilies, with contrasting warm and cool colors creating an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere.

The developers use this to explain the core worldview concept: death is not the opposite of life, but a continuation of unresolved attachments. In the game, players take on the role of an Underworld Judge, traveling between the mortal realm and the afterlife to guide souls and resolve karmic ties. Traditional figures from Chinese mythology, such as Ox-Head and Horse-Face, will appear as companions.

The official account also reposted a hands-on review from the foreign media outlet RPGSite. The outlet stated that Gu Jian does not simply copy designs from similar games; its combat mechanics feature a fully original approach, offering high freedom for players to customize their playstyle by combining weapons, magical artifacts, and summoned spirits. The review also noted that a single demo chapter cannot represent the game's overall quality, and the true verdict will only be revealed upon the full release.

Gu Jian is positioned as a broad linear supernatural ARPG, not a pure open-world or hardcore Soulslike title. It will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the release date yet to be announced.
