Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel's Wolverine has officially completed development and gone gold, with a release date set for September 15. The developer shared the news on social media alongside an image of Wolverine unsheathing his claws, marking a key development milestone for this PS5 exclusive ahead of its launch.
In their announcement, the Insomniac team joked that they were "unsheathing their claws in celebration" as Marvel's Wolverine went gold. The studio also revealed a long-awaited feature for fans: players will be able to unlock and equip the "Golden Claws" cosmetic appearance during gameplay.
"Going gold" is an industry term that typically indicates the development team has finalized the master version ready for mass production and retail release. Although post-launch patches and additional content updates may still be developed, this milestone signifies that the core development work is fully complete.
Marvel's Wolverine is developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This single-player action-adventure title shares the same universe as Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man series, featuring an original story centered on James "Logan" Howlett, with classic characters such as Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabretooth making appearances.
The game emphasizes close-quarters combat, with core gameplay built around Wolverine's adamantium claws, healing factor, and heightened senses. The narrative will take players to various locations as Logan confronts numerous threats closely tied to his past.
Marvel's Wolverine is scheduled for official release on September 15, 2026, as a PS5 platform exclusive.
