Genie Boy Games, developer of TWIRL, has announced its new title Sweetheart, a "first-person narrative-driven horror breakup simulator" scheduled for release in 2027 on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PS5.
"It's hard not to yearn to be like those perfect couples we see on TV," said Ben Escobar, founder of Genie Boy Games, in a press release. "Sweetheart transforms this notion into a surreal tragedy, examining the era of the early 2000s when major networks turned children into stars, and the profound human trauma that may have resulted. Beneath the horror and comedy elements lies a genuine and poignant story about the stigma of mental illness, the gray areas of codependent identities, and ultimately, how to overcome abuse in romantic relationships."
About This Game
This isn't a love story... right?
Sweetheart is a dating/breakup/existential crisis simulator where you must survive the end of a 15-year toxic relationship with your high school sweetheart, who has since become a pop star and mutated into a monster born from the delusions of your childhood dreams.
