Currently, there is significant uncertainty surrounding the pricing of next-generation consoles in the gaming industry. At the recent Gamescom, Xbox head Asha Sharma revealed in an interview with the BBC that Microsoft is prioritizing "affordability" and "energy efficiency" in the development of its next-generation Xbox (codenamed Project Helix).
Sharma candidly stated, "The entire industry must begin innovating in terms of affordability and energy efficiency, a challenge we have never truly faced before."
This statement comes against the backdrop of a global shortage of electronic components, which has significantly increased hardware manufacturing costs. Sony previously raised the prices of all PS5 models due to this issue. Several industry analysts predict that the pricing for next-generation consoles will far exceed that of the current generation, with the launch price of the PS6 potentially surpassing the $1,000 mark.
In response to this trend, Microsoft is clearly attempting to strike a balance between performance and cost to lower the barrier for players entering the next-generation gaming platform. Currently, neither Sony nor Microsoft has officially announced the specific specifications, pricing, or release dates for their next-generation consoles.
