According to an announcement on the W4 Games website, the company completed an $18 million Series B funding round on August 25. The round was led by Tencent, with both parties also signing a multi-year strategic cooperation agreement.
OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lütke's family office also participated in this round of investment. Following this financing, W4 Games' total funding raised to date has reached $33 million.
W4 Games plans to use the new funds to expand its international operations, increasing the size of its international team by 50%, and accelerating the development of enterprise-grade products. The company will also continue to meet the growing needs of enterprise developers using the Godot engine, providing tools, technical support, and related services to studios of all sizes.
Under the cooperation agreement, W4 Games and Tencent will jointly expand the reach of the Godot engine among enterprises, game studios, and developers in Asia. The two parties plan to collaborate on marketing, localization, ecosystem support, developer advocacy, and market expansion to promote the development and adoption of W4 technologies in the Asian region.
W4 Games was founded by core Godot developers and project contributors, primarily to drive the adoption of this open-source engine in the enterprise market. Nicola Farronato, Co-CEO of the company, stated that Tencent's role as both a strategic partner and investor will help accelerate the adoption of enterprise-grade Godot technology, especially in the Asian market.
The number of Godot-related games has continued to grow in recent years. SteamDB data shows that the number of Godot games released on Steam in 2024 and 2025 both increased by more than 50% year-over-year. W4 Games' analysis of Gamalytic data reveals that over the past three years, the number of Godot games with annual sales exceeding $1 million has grown from 2 to over 50.
At events like Global Game Jam and GMTK Game Jam, the proportion of submitted games made with Godot has also risen from 10% in 2022 to 50%. W4 Games expects that as its enterprise business grows, its contributions to the Godot project will continue to increase; improvements developed for enterprise clients will also be submitted upstream when conditions allow, making them available to the broader developer community.
