At Universal Orlando Resort, the attraction is set against the game’s eerie Fields environment, placing guests inside an in‑match scenario. An installation mimicking the character‑select screen stands at the entrance, with Skull Trooper Jonesy assigned as the player avatar. Guests must traverse the area to reach the Battle Bus.
The scare zone is filled with pumpkins, scarecrows, cornfields, barns and glowing jack‑o’‑lanterns. Multiple Fortnite skins and NPCs appear along the path, including Shadows from past Fortnitemares events and Husks originating from Fortnite: Save the World. All these characters are portrayed by live performers roaming freely throughout the space.
Ramón Paradoa, Creative Development Show Director at Universal Orlando Resort, stated that beyond recreating the game’s visual assets, the team aimed to heighten immersion. To achieve this, a closing‑in storm effect has been implemented within the space. LED lights strung among trees, large purple floodlights and fog machines simulate the shrinking safe‑zone mechanic, while in‑space characters react as the storm draws near.
A separate show segment uses projection‑mapping technology to depict Wrath building structures and closing in on enemies. The venue also features characters such as Skull Trooper and Hollowhead. Skeleterra interacts with guests and performs in‑game‑inspired moves for photo and video opportunities.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort is now open. The Hollywood edition kicks off on September 3rd. Both events will run through November 1st.
