Valve has released a new SteamOS update, resolving one of the most annoying persistent issues with the Steam Deck—automatically waking up right after shutting down.
The SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta patch notes confirm: "Fixed an issue where the system would occasionally wake up immediately after entering sleep mode. Fixed a rare issue where CPU performance would degrade after waking from sleep, requiring a restart to restore."
This update also fixes HDMI audio disconnection issues when using specific games with TVs, improves the reliability of HDMI hot-plug detection, and adds low-latency audio codec options for Bluetooth devices.
In addition to optimizations for the Steam Deck, this update comprehensively fixes various issues across Valve's entire hardware lineup, including HDMI display anomalies, Wi-Fi connection stuttering, and SteamOS update installation failures.
- Added wake support for the 2015 Steam Controller wireless adapter
- Optimized battery display when device power consumption exceeds charger supply during charging
- Added initial support for the Steam Frame wireless adapter
- The built-in `hid_steam` controller driver now supports the 2026 Steam Controller, allowing the device to be used in native controller applications without launching Steam
- Fixed an issue where hot-plugging an HDMI monitor in desktop mode could cause the system to freeze
- Fixed an issue where TVs supporting HDMI "Game Mode" would display the initial boot logo before enabling the mode, causing unnecessary delay and screen flickering
- Fixed issues such as slow Wi-Fi connection speeds and stuttering on some adapters
- Fixed an issue where some users previously failed to install SteamOS updates
- Security and stability fixes
Regarding third-party hardware, SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta improves support for MSI Claw, OneXplayer, and devices with external or no Wi-Fi adapters; fixed a bug where input was unresponsive when holding third-party handhelds; added controller support for MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, Konkr FIT, and AYANEO Pocket S2, while updating OneXPlayer Apex controller compatibility for new firmware.
