Since its launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms on March 19, 2026, the open-world RPG Crimson Desert, developed by Korean studio Pearl Abyss, has quickly become one of the most notable titles of the year thanks to its vast world-building and continuous free content updates. Recently, Pearl Abyss detailed the long-term roadmap for the IP in its Q2 2026 financial report, covering directions such as multiplayer modes, DLC plans, a Switch 2 port, and the possibility of sequels.
In its financial report letter, Pearl Abyss confirmed that specific information regarding the first DLC for Crimson Desert will be officially announced in the third quarter of this year (by September 30). Currently, the team has not finalized the overall scope of the DLC content, but clearly stated that Crimson Desert is not intended as a standalone title; rather, it is viewed as the company's flagship series with long-term potential for sequels. This indicates that Pearl Abyss intends to establish the brand as one of its core product lines in the future.
Regarding the highly anticipated multiplayer features within the player community, Pearl Abyss stated that it is evaluating the possibility of large-scale multiplayer expansions. However, the team also candidly pointed out that seamlessly integrating multiplayer modes into the existing game architecture presents significant technical challenges. Specific implementation plans and whether they will ultimately be realized remain to be further verified.
Addressing users of Nintendo's new platform, Pearl Abyss confirmed that the Switch 2 port of Crimson Desert is already in a basic playable state. However, it still requires deep optimization and quality assessment to meet the company's release standards. The team has targeted the first half of 2027 as the planned release window, with more details to be disclosed gradually as the time approaches.
In response to calls for a mobile port, Pearl Abyss clearly stated that there are no plans to release a mobile version in the short term. Nevertheless, the company indicated that it continues to research technical approaches to optimize its proprietary BlackSpace engine for mobile platforms, preparing for future possibilities.
Additionally, Pearl Abyss confirmed that Crimson Desert will participate in Gamescom, held in August, where more major announcements are expected.
