New explanations have recently emerged regarding this unusual partnership: Netflix did not pay any fees for this, and Rockstar chose the platform primarily to prevent content from being leaked prematurely on YouTube.
According to gaming industry insider Millie A, Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two thoroughly discussed the "probability of leaks" associated with releasing via YouTube while planning this in-depth showcase. Given that the first trailer for GTA6 was forced to be released a day early due to hackers infiltrating Rockstar's YouTube channel, these concerns are well-founded.
Reports indicate that Take-Two subsequently approached Netflix, which readily accepted the opportunity for the showcase. Meanwhile, Take-Two also communicated with its marketing partner Sony, who expressed approval of the concept.
Renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier also confirmed this direction in a recent video. He stated that Take-Two's choice of Netflix was indeed driven by considerations unrelated to money, pointing out that Netflix offers audience reach distinct from traditional gaming platforms and YouTube.
This aligns with previous statements made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. During an investor call in May 2026, Zelnick stated that the company was exploring collaborations with other platforms to reach a broader, non-traditional gaming audience.
According to reports, Gabe Spitzer, Netflix's Vice President of Sports and Live Content, was the key figure in facilitating this collaboration.
