New details have emerged online regarding the recent leak of GTA 6 footage. According to blogger TheRavenHelm, several developers he has communicated with believe that the released videos were recorded from the PC version of the game, with a controller connected to the computer.
One reason for this speculation is the button prompts shown on screen. In the leaked footage, the button icons initially appear blank, only displaying the corresponding icon after a controller button is pressed. The insider believes this is an auto-detection feature for connected input devices specific to the PC version.
TheRavenHelm also claims that this is not just a test demo, but a fully playable version of GTA 6 that the source of the leak has access to. He speculates that the leak may have been orchestrated by a former Rockstar Games employee or someone connected to laid-off studio staff. Furthermore, the blogger specifically pointed out that recording using the PC version seems more plausible than recording from a console. If the footage had been recorded directly from a PS5 during early development stages, it would likely require a development kit; whereas an internal PC version would not have such restrictions.
Currently, Rockstar Games has not provided any official confirmation, so information regarding the source of the leak remains speculative. However, if these claims are true, the situation is far more serious than a typical leak of scattered test footage. It would mean that, should the leaker choose to do so, players could play GTA 6 for free as soon as the official PC version is announced.
