The third installment of the classic Japanese supernatural anime film trilogy, "Mononoke: Karakasa," is confirmed for an exclusive Netflix release on September 29. The film already premiered in Japanese theaters this May, so those who haven't seen it yet can look forward to its streaming debut.
"Mononoke" aired in 2007 as the eighth title in Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block. It follows the story of a mysterious young man known as the "Medicine Seller" (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya), who wields a demon-slaying sword to quell supernatural disturbances caused by spirits entangled in human emotions and grudges.
The theatrical trilogy is set in the lavish and opulent "Ooku," where the status of the central character rises with each chapter. The third chapter centers on Okuri (voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro), the highest-ranking woman in the Ooku, as she engages in a deadly battle against the powerful supernatural entity known as the "Snake God," whose origins trace back to the true events surrounding the birth of the Ooku 150 years ago.
