Ukrainian developer GSC Game World is about to release the 2.0 update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, bringing a host of free improvements to all players.
The update will go live on August 20, coinciding with the release of the game's first major expansion, "Price of Hope." The 2.0 update focuses primarily on visual enhancements, more dynamic Zone activity, richer customization options, and new weapons.
Visually, players can expect improved environmental presentation throughout the Zone, including building interiors and underground areas, thanks to more natural lighting, realistic shadows, and enhanced reflections. Reportedly, GSC has also remade the terrain and vegetation to make the Zone feel more natural and immersive.
The patch further improves the A-Life AI system, making activities and encounters throughout the Zone more realistic. Points of interest such as campfires, bus stops, and other locations are now more dangerous, as stalkers and mutants may converge there.
This update also resolves some long-standing underlying issues, such as enemies being able to shoot or throw items through walls, and abnormal population spikes in certain areas. Additionally, the 2.0 update introduces a Custom Rules feature to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, allowing players to adjust difficulty settings for a more relaxed survival experience or a more challenging gameplay mode. Players seeking a more traditional hardcore experience can choose Master difficulty or enable the optional Expedition Mode, both of which were introduced in previous updates.
Stalkers will also receive three different types of binoculars. Each model uses different technology and offers unique features, allowing players to scout areas, identify targets, and plan their next moves. Players can find these binoculars within the Zone or purchase them from specific traders.
The 2.0 update adds four new firearms to expand the arsenal:
Arev – Assault Rifle
GP3A – Marksman Rifle
SKP – Marksman Rifle
Fora-230 – Submachine Gun
Players can also discover a unique new weapon variant within the Exclusion Zone. This update also adds various optical sights, including a 3x scope for Western-faction weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern European-faction weapons. The offset aiming feature has also been expanded beyond night vision devices, giving players greater freedom when customizing their loadouts.
Fog now impacts gameplay rather than serving merely as a visual weather effect. In foggy conditions, visibility and hearing are reduced for both stalkers and enemies. Additionally, the visual effects for light rain scenes have been completely upgraded to better match the improved environmental presentation of this update.
Other additions and improvements include:
A new Statistics page has been added to the PDA, allowing players to track their activities within the Zone.
The appearance of Vampires and Flesh-eaters varies depending on their habitat.
Additional technical fixes and improvements have been made based on community feedback.
GSC describes the 2.0 update as a culmination of years of player feedback, technical improvements, and new ideas, aiming to make the Zone more dynamic and immersive.
Of course, the new patch pairs best with the "Price of Hope" DLC. The upcoming expansion will delve deeper into the longstanding conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions, taking players to new locations including the Iron Forest, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and the Space Bubble. GSC states that players can expect hours of new content while revisiting the unique atmosphere of the Exclusion Zone.
"Price of Hope" will be included in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Ultimate Edition and is also available for separate purchase at $29.99 / €29.99.
