Nintendo Strikes Twice! Following India, Switch and Switch 2 Announced for Indonesia

Nintendo recently announced via official channels that its Switch and Switch 2 consoles will officially launch in the Indonesian market in December 2026. This means that Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country with nearly 300 million people, will welcome officially distributed Nintendo home console products for the first time.

Unlike the strategy in the Indian market, which focused primarily on the original Switch, Nintendo has confirmed that it will launch both consoles simultaneously in Indonesia. This dual-track approach allows new players to choose the latest hardware directly, while also retaining the classic Switch option for price-sensitive consumers.

Notably, the cumulative global sales of the original Switch are already very close to the historical record of approximately 160 million units set by Sony's PlayStation 2. With the opening of this new market in Indonesia, Switch shipments are expected to gain new momentum, further increasing the likelihood that it will surpass the PS2 to become the best-selling game console in history.

As of press time, Nintendo has not yet announced specific pricing strategies, localization support plans, or channel partnership details for the Indonesian market.
