Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development. In a letter to shareholders on August 6, Warner Bros. included the sequel in its game development roadmap and outlined its future strategic plans.
The letter stated, "As we expand our gaming portfolio, including Hogwarts Legacy 2, we expect the gaming business to make a more significant contribution to the company's profitability in the future." While there wasn't much new information beyond that, Warner Bros.' official acknowledgment of the sequel is a welcome improvement over previous hints.
Warner Bros. has refocused its gaming division on four core franchises, each of which it believes can generate over $1 billion in revenue: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC.
Hogwarts Legacy is the centerpiece of this strategy, with the first installment selling over 40 million copies. It was also the best-selling game of 2023, becoming the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar Games title to achieve this feat since 2009.
