Although The Witcher 4, the reboot of The Witcher series, has drawn significant attention with its impressive technical demo, the series' multiplayer spin-off, "Project Sirius," has faced another setback. According to renowned gaming media outlets Kotaku and Eurogamer, developer CD Projekt RED recently conducted a new round of layoffs within the project team, marking another major personnel adjustment since the project's reboot in 2023.
Reports indicate that the layoffs affected nine positions, with another nine developers reassigned to other internal projects. This adjustment impacted CD Projekt RED teams in both Boston and Warsaw. As of April 30 this year, the "Project Sirius" team consisted of 83 developers; following these changes, the team size has been reduced to approximately 65 members.
CD Projekt RED confirmed the news in statements to media outlets such as Eurogamer and IGN, stating that they had adjusted the size of the "Project Sirius" team.
"Project Sirius" is a multiplayer game based on The Witcher universe, announced by CD Projekt RED in 2022. Unlike the traditional single-player RPGs in The Witcher series, this title aims to offer both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes to attract a broader player base.
Despite setbacks, CD Projekt RED has not announced the cancellation of "Project Sirius," though its future direction and release date remain uncertain. Meanwhile, the company is fully committed to advancing several key projects, including The Witcher 4, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and the remake of The Witcher 1.
