2K has confirmed that players playing Mafia: Definitive Edition via PlayStation Plus are not eligible for the free next-gen upgrade.
This clarification came from Bret M, 2K's Community Manager, in a response on the company's official Discord. When addressing questions about upgrade eligibility, Bret M confirmed that "players who obtained the game through PS Plus are not eligible for the free upgrade."
Mafia: Definitive Edition launched native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 14, 2026. This upgrade introduced 60 FPS support and other technical improvements tailored for modern consoles.
Players who purchased the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions can receive a free digital upgrade. However, players with physical copies of the Xbox One version cannot claim the upgrade, and save data cannot be transferred between generations.
In addition to the next-gen upgrade, 2K released Mafia: The Definitive Trilogy on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) on August 14.
The collection includes Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, Mafia III: Definitive Edition, and Mafia: Homeland Definitive Edition. The latter also includes the "Man of Honor" expansion pack and its Deluxe Edition content.
Players who already own individual titles from the collection can also enjoy discounted offers, as the bundle packages together four mainline Mafia games.
