The Elder Scrolls VI is currently being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, under Xbox, but this does not necessarily mean it will be an Xbox console exclusive. Xbox's stance on exclusivity has been inconsistent. However, in the months since Asha Sharma took over as CEO, the company has clearly signaled a return to exclusivity—unlike during former CEO Phil Spencer's tenure, when Xbox heavily promoted a multi-platform strategy. Yet, for titles like The Elder Scrolls VI, which began development before Bethesda was acquired by Xbox and boasts a massive global fanbase, whether it will ultimately become an Xbox console exclusive remains unknown.
At Gamescom 2026, BBC (citing GameSpot) asked Sharma about Xbox's overall exclusivity strategy. As expected, she did not provide a straightforward answer.
Sharma stated, "We are gradually growing into one of the largest gaming platforms in the world. Every platform needs some form of exclusive experiences and content. We have announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be exclusive to Xbox consoles. We will do our best to continue this approach, provided it ensures healthy business growth, so we must strike a balance."
When specifically asked whether The Elder Scrolls VI would be an Xbox exclusive, Sharma simply smiled and responded, "It's a very impressive game."
The Elder Scrolls VI was officially announced over eight years ago, but Bethesda and Xbox have remained tight-lipped about the game. The extremely short trailer released in 2018 remains the only official showcase to date. After months of silence, Sharma herself revealed that she had "played the game," praising its "grand scale and majestic presence," and noting that the story had "reached new heights."
During her visit to Bethesda's headquarters, Sharma also faced protests. Demonstrators opposed the company's ongoing layoff plans—under Sharma's leadership, a total of 3,200 employees are set to be laid off.
