According to GameSpot, Universal Studios has partnered with Epic Games to introduce a Fortnite-themed scare zone for this year's Halloween Horror Nights. Both the Orlando and Hollywood parks will feature related areas, each with its own unique design.
The Orlando park uses the game's eerie fields as its stage, placing visitors in a battle royale match. The entrance features a setup resembling the character selection screen, with Skeleton Jonesy chosen as the player skin. Visitors must traverse this area to finally reach the Battle Bus location.
The scare zones are decorated with scenes featuring pumpkins, scarecrows, cornfields, barns, and glowing jack-o'-lanterns. Along the way, various Fortnite character skins and NPCs appear, including Shadows from previous Halloween events and Husks from Fortnite: Save the World. These characters are portrayed by actors who roam freely within the area.
Ramón Paradoa, Director of Creative Development for Shows at Universal Orlando Resort, stated that the team aimed to enhance immersion beyond just replicating the game's visual elements. To achieve this, storm approach effects were added, using LED lights among trees, large purple floodlights, and fog machines to simulate the shrinking safe zone, with on-site characters reacting to the storm's arrival.
Another segment uses projection mapping to show the character Wrath constructing buildings and approaching enemies. The venue also features characters like Skeleton Warriors and Hollowhead, while Skeleterra interacts with guests and performs in-game actions for photos or videos.
Universal Orlando Resort's Halloween Horror Nights is now open, with events in the Hollywood area starting on September 3. Both locations will run their events until November 1.
