Der8auer is now selling delidded versions of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, priced at $1,402.83 (approximately 9,459 RMB). This represents a premium of over 56% compared to AMD's official suggested retail price of $899.
However, for overclockers pursuing extreme cooling, this premium offers more reliable protection compared to the risk of voiding the warranty by delidding the CPU themselves.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D was released in April this year. It features a 16-core Zen 5 architecture, with both CCDs equipped with 3D V-Cache, resulting in a total cache capacity of 208MB. It has a maximum boost clock of 5.6GHz and a default TDP of 200W.
Delidding removes the AMD original IHS, allowing the cooler to make direct contact with the die surface for improved thermal performance. However, this procedure typically voids the AMD factory warranty. To address this, Der8auer provides an independent warranty for each delidded processor.
After delidding, Der8auer cleans the CPU and performs functional tests. The package also includes a USB drive containing temperature test screenshots and microscope images of the processor.
Der8auer ships the AMD original IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) along with the product but explicitly warns buyers not to reinstall it. There is a height difference between the chiplets and the original IHS, which thermal interface materials cannot effectively compensate for. Forcing it back on may damage the processor and will void Der8auer's warranty.
Der8auer recommends using their own direct-die cooling products or replacement heat spreaders, and suggests pairing them with Conductonaut liquid metal thermal compound to achieve direct contact with the die. When using liquid metal, exposed SMD components must be insulated to prevent short circuits.
