"Stellar Blade" Revenue Drops 31.6% Quarter-on-Quarter as Developer Pours Funds into Switch 2 Version and Sequel

South Korean game developer Shift Up recently released its financial report for the second quarter of 2026. Revenue from its action game, Stellar Blade, for the quarter was 8.831 billion KRW (approximately 47 million RMB), a 31.6% decrease quarter-over-quarter and a sharp 86.6% drop year-over-year. However, the significant year-over-year decline is primarily attributed to the revenue peak generated by the PC version's release during the same period last year, which launched in Q2 2025 and brought substantial incremental income to the game.

From the perspective of overall corporate performance, Shift Up's total operating revenue for the second quarter reached 55.7 billion KRW, a 17.8% increase quarter-over-quarter but a 50.4% decrease year-over-year; operating profit was 28.1 billion KRW, and net profit was 41.7 billion KRW.

At the Summer Game Fest 2026, Shift Up officially announced the Stellar Blade sequel, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, and released a 3-minute and 30-second gameplay trailer. According to the company, the trailer had accumulated 1.61 million views by the end of July, receiving positive responses from the gaming community and media.

Shift Up plans to self-publish the sequel to strengthen its control over the marketing and business strategy of the Stellar Blade IP. The company believes that, leveraging the player base established by the previous title and the flexibility offered by self-publishing, the sequel has the potential to surpass the market performance of its predecessor.

In addition to the sequel, Shift Up is actively advancing development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade, which is scheduled for release in the second half of 2026. The company aims to further extend the game's lifecycle and maintain sales momentum by launching on this new platform.

Shift Up currently positions Stellar Blade as an IP with sustained sales in the PC and console markets, rather than relying solely on launch sales. The company stated that seasonal promotions and the announcement of Blood Rain continue to attract new users to the original title.
