Disney has announced that an original animated series inspired by the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise is in development. The series is being created through a collaboration between Disney and the creative teams of game director Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix, and will air on Disney Channel and Disney+.
The series will feature “an all-new story that expands the Kingdom Hearts universe while paying homage to the characters who have captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.”
Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement: “Kingdom Hearts has captured the hearts of players around the world with its unique blend of adventure and imagination. It’s thrilling to bring the worlds fans have explored in the games to life in a whole new way. Our new series will be developed in close collaboration with legendary creator Tetsuya Nomura to craft a distinct Kingdom Hearts experience, offering fans fresh ways to engage with the worlds they love.”
