Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox at Microsoft, recently posted an intriguing update on social media, revealing that she had watched a gameplay demo of The Elder Scrolls VI and obscured the game's title with eight asterisks. This detail instantly ignited excitement within the player community, kicking off a guessing game centered around those eight characters.
Adding to players' conviction that this was no accident, Bethesda Game Studios' official account later replied to Sharma's tweet using the exact same eight-asterisk pattern to refer to the game, thanking her for her visit and praise. This highly consistent masking led many players to believe it was a deliberate hint rather than random censorship.
The player community quickly brainstormed possible eight-letter words. The leading guess is currently "Sentinel," which not only consists of exactly eight letters but also ties closely into the existing lore of The Elder Scrolls series—specifically, the famous kingdom and city of Sentinel in Hammerfell on the continent of Tamriel.
Players supporting this theory have uncovered another clue: in Starfield, another title under Bethesda, there was once a numeric code Easter egg that, when deciphered, could be interpreted as "S-E-N-T-I-N-E-L." This discovery further bolsters the "Sentinel" hypothesis.
As of now, Bethesda has neither confirmed nor denied the "Sentinel" theory, and the official subtitle for The Elder Scrolls VI remains a mystery.
