A Full 30 Improvements! Technical Enhancements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Update Revealed

CD PROJEKT RED has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, a major update to the 2015 RPG, launching on September 29. The remaster will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, while Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a native version. Existing owners on respective platforms will receive the update for free.

The PC version will receive a rendering overhaul significantly larger than the 2022 next-gen console update. CDPR confirmed that the remaster will add path tracing, hair ray tracing, improved ray tracing, overhauled global illumination, new shading models, subsurface scattering, updated textures, adjusted vegetation shadows, GTAO, HDR improvements, and a new tone mapper to PC. Developers will also migrate the game to native DirectX 12 and mentioned render parallelization.

Support for all three major upscaling technologies has been confirmed for the PC version. The list includes NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.0. CDPR also specifically noted that the PC version will offer both Ray Reconstruction and Ray Tracing. NVIDIA released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction today, utilizing its second-generation Transformer model to denoise ray tracing and path tracing effects.

CDPR has not yet specified which DLSS 4.5 features will be available via in-game settings. The trailer confirms support for DLSS 4.5 and Ray Reconstruction, but does not separately mention Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation or its 6X mode. Support for AMD FSR 4 and Intel XeSS 2.0 has also been confirmed, but without further details on supported modes.
