"Bloodborne" Closed Beta More Popular Than "Elden Ring: Nightreign"

It seems fans are eager to learn more about From Software's Switch 2 exclusive, Duskbloods, as one of the game's producers revealed that trial registration numbers surpassed those of Elden Ring: Nightreign.

During a live stream hosted by the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Yasuhiro Kitao, Marketing Director at From Software, stated that applications for the Duskbloods trial exceeded those for the developer's previous multiplayer experiment, Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Kitao said, "We were truly surprised."

Considering that Elden Ring: Nightreign previously launched its playtest on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while Duskbloods was tested exclusively on Switch 2, the latter's greater popularity is indeed noteworthy. The Switch 2 is a relatively new console, having been on the market for only about a year, meaning its user base is far smaller than that of the other two platforms.

On the surface, this is surprising, but there may be some logic behind it.

Elden Ring: Nightreign has sold over 5 million copies, with its DLC moving 2 million units in less than a week. The game's success proves that From Software can create highly enjoyable, multiplayer-focused Soulslike experiences, which may have also drawn more attention to the development of Duskbloods.

Furthermore, information about Duskbloods was virtually nonexistent before the closed network test, likely fueling player curiosity and encouraging them to sign up enthusiastically. While players knew it was a multiplayer title, the specific structure, playable classes, and game mechanics of Duskbloods remained a mystery. The fact that it is personally directed by From Software's legendary director Hidetaka Miyazaki undoubtedly adds significant prestige to Twilight Legion.

Such a massive number of trial applications is a good sign for Duskbloods, even though From Software had to cancel the first test session due to server and connectivity issues during the initial network test.
