Starting in 2028, Sony will discontinue physical discs for new games, shifting to a fully digital model. This will undoubtedly impact the entire market, meaning that even third-party titles will no longer include discs, marking the end of physical media.
Polish developer CDPR recently addressed this issue, stating that even if Sony abandons disc-based releases, The Witcher 4 will still launch with a physical edition. However, the physical box will contain a digital code, along with some bonus content.
CDPR Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski responded to concerns that The Witcher 4 would be released exclusively as a digital title. Unfortunately, it appears that it will indeed be digital-only, as CDPR is powerless against Sony's new policy.
"We're geeks ourselves, and we love it. We've always supported discs. We'll release a box with some soft-touch goodies inside. You'll want to open it up and admire it."
However, Michał Nowakowski stated that CDPR strongly supports physical media and does not believe discs should disappear. To that end, they will equip The Witcher 4 with a premium box and collectibles to meet the demands of collectors.
