Reddit user u/MetalReserve2351 stated that while running Cyberpunk 2077, their gaming laptop's temperature previously ranged between 80°C and 90°C, but after switching to a metal desk, it dropped to 75°C–83°C.
The gaming laptop in question is an Acer Shadow Knight (Nitro), configured with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor and an RTX 4060 graphics card.
Other Reddit users in the comments pointed out that in similar situations, slightly elevating the gaming laptop or keeping it at a certain angle can further improve cooling. Of course, there are more direct methods to lower gaming laptop temperatures, such as undervolting or using a cooling pad.
However, the fact that merely changing the desk material can cause such a significant temperature drop in a short time is certainly worth noting for current gaming laptop users.
Given that hardware shortages have already led to a significant increase in gaming hardware prices, taking good care of your equipment is never a bad idea. Therefore, any small tip that helps extend hardware lifespan may hold value, even if it seems insignificant at first glance.
