CDPR States The Witcher 4 Prioritizes the Console Market and Will Not Ignore Console Players

Recently, CDPR Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski gave an interview to foreign media outlet TheGameBusiness, sharing his views on the current industry situation of rising console hardware prices and rumors that next-generation consoles could cost nearly $1,000. He reaffirmed that The Witcher 4 values the console market and will not neglect console players.

Nowakowski acknowledged that the continuously rising prices of consoles are an objective challenge facing the industry. However, the plug-and-play nature of consoles remains irreplaceable for attracting casual and light gamers, continuing to drive growth across the entire gaming industry.

He stated, "The platform format isn't that important when it comes to delivering games to players; content is king. As long as the game content is outstanding enough, players will always find a way to play it."

Nowakowski stated that if the PS5 and XSX|S remain mainstream gaming devices at launch, The Witcher 4 will fully launch on these platforms, with the team seeking distribution solutions that balance commercial returns and player experience. Even if next-generation consoles are delayed, CDPR will flexibly adjust its development plans; some creative concepts may be implemented later, but there is no concern about the console market's commercial prospects.

His remarks align with the previous views of Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick: rising hardware costs will not hinder the development of high-quality games. Meanwhile, the PC version remains a key focus for CDPR; even if new consoles are delayed, the project has a secure foundation.

The interview also revisited the physical release of The Witcher 4. Due to Sony's policy of discontinuing disc production by 2028, the PS version cannot guarantee inclusion of a game disc. However, CDPR will still release a physical boxed edition containing a digital redemption code and physical collectibles to satisfy collectors.
