1047 Games studio announced today that development of its party-based competitive FPS game EMPULSE and Splitgate: Arena Warfare has been halted. The servers will be shut down on September 3, and the games will transition to P2P operation going forward.
1047 Games is the developer behind the online FPS series Splitgate, which features portal-based gameplay. It was first released on PC in 2019, and its popularity surged with the addition of console versions, setting a record on Steam with over 67,000 concurrent players at its peak.
The company later announced Splitgate 2, a sequel rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, which generated significant interest on Steam with around 25,000 wishlists. Meanwhile, incorporating player feedback, they re-released Splitgate: Arena Warfare.
However, the studio was already facing financial difficulties and soon implemented two rounds of layoffs. Furthermore, the peak concurrent player count for the re-released title only reached around 2,300, and the official statement indicates that revenue is no longer sufficient to cover server costs.
· The new title EMPULSE was just released this June and similarly failed to gain traction, with peak concurrent players hovering around 3,000, and currently only about 200 players remaining active.
