Recently, former Warner Bros. Games marketing manager Chandler Wood revealed that the open-world magical RPG Hogwarts Legacy has generated over $2 billion in revenue for Warner Bros., with cumulative global physical and digital sales exceeding 40 million copies, placing it among the top-performing commercial games of the past decade.
Hogwarts Legacy was released in 2023, becoming the best-selling game globally that year. It was also the first game since 2009 to top the annual sales chart that was neither part of the Call of Duty franchise nor owned by Rockstar Games. Compared to previous Harry Potter adaptations, this title breaks away from the movie's storyline, allowing players to create their own wizard character, freely explore Hogwarts Castle and the Scottish Highlands, and experience their own magical adventure, precisely fulfilling fans' long-held expectations and achieving phenomenal market success.
Warner Bros. previously confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development. The project has been designated as a high-priority flagship title for the company's gaming division. It is not merely a DLC for the first game, but a complete, standalone AAA sequel, once again being developed by the original team at Avalanche Software. Financial reports mention that as the product portfolio expands, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is expected to significantly boost profitability in the gaming business segment in the future.
The official has not yet revealed the plot, gameplay, platforms, or release window for the sequel. Industry analysts generally predict that the new title will likely launch between 2027 and 2028. There are also rumors within the industry that Warner Bros. may coordinate the game's marketing campaign with HBO's new live-action Harry Potter TV series.
