"Orbitals" Does Not Pursue a Long Campaign, No Plans to Launch on Other Platforms for Now

The two-player cooperative puzzle-adventure game Orbitals will launch on NS2 on September 3. Recently, game director Jakob Lundgren spoke with foreign media outlet MinnMax, revealing details about the game’s platform exclusivity, progression design, and artistic approach.

When asked about the playtime for Orbitals, the director replied that while he couldn’t provide an exact number, the team isn’t aiming for a lengthy experience. Their goal is to create a lightweight cooperative experience. The creators stated that players and their friends can complete all content in just 2–3 full sessions, avoiding long campaigns that make it hard for friends to coordinate schedules. Puzzles and level designs are all optimized for short, snappy gameplay sessions.

Orbitals has been designed from the ground up for two-player gameplay, featuring asymmetric split-screen co-op where each character has distinct tools and roles. The director stated that accommodating a single-player mode would significantly dilute the core joy of cooperative play, so all single-player content was removed. The game supports only two multiplayer options: local co-op on the same screen and online co-op on NS2.

The visual style of Orbitals draws inspiration from Akira Toriyama’s works and classic 1980s space anime. The art follows the principle of “could an animator of that era easily draw this?”, featuring clean, crisp lines and hand-drawn cutscenes. The story follows two space explorers who join forces to brave cosmic storms and save their home space station. The developers have confirmed that they are currently focusing exclusively on the NS2 version, with no plans to support other platforms such as PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.
