During Gamescom, CD Projekt RED's dedicated livestream showcased the main characters of The Witcher 3: Bards' Song. The central figures of the story will be Dandelion and his family. The expansion's plot takes place in the Northern Kingdom of Lyria, where the bard returns due to family matters. Here, Geralt will meet his cousin Lyra de Leydenhoff, an adventurous young woman who, from what we can see so far, will soon pique the Witcher's romantic interest.
The showcased materials feature a refreshed Dandelion, Lyra, his grandmother, and Humbert de Leydenhoff, a long-deceased ancestor of the family. According to the developers, Dandelion's family estate will become one of the key locations in the new story. Geralt will not only need to unravel the bard's family secrets but also deal with dangers lurking nearby. In one scene, Geralt accompanies Lyra to scout a mysterious forest that appears to be afflicted by a curse. Among the trees, the two protagonists encounter animated thorn bushes and other terrifying creatures. During the mission, Lyra is entangled and knocked down by thorns, after which several action options appear before Geralt, including the possibility of embracing her.
The developers have not directly confirmed a romance route with Lyra. Miles Tost, CD Projekt RED's Level Design Lead, jokingly stated that he remains loyal to Yennefer, while the CEO of Fool's Theory gave an ambiguous response when directly asked about the possibility of developing a romance, suggesting it is best for players to find out for themselves.
The list of monsters in the game will also be expanded. The developers have added several enemies familiar to readers of the books, as well as designed unique creatures born from ancient curses in this region.
