NVIDIA Reveals New DLSS 5 Details, Launching This Fall Exclusively for RTX 50 Series

NVIDIA has revealed new details about DLSS 5, set to launch this fall. At SIGGRAPH 2026, NVIDIA confirmed that the technology will exclusively support GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards and can run without a second GPU.

Unlike previous DLSS versions, DLSS 5 focuses on neural rendering. The technology uses color information and motion vectors from games, leveraging generative models to enhance lighting and material details. NVIDIA positions this approach as the next stage in the technology's evolution, with AI becoming an integral part of the graphics pipeline. Developers will be able to choose from three AI models and gain additional tools to control the processing of individual objects in the scene. Specifically, creators can exclude certain elements from AI rendering and adjust the intensity of detail generation. According to NVIDIA, this will allow artists to better control the final image and preserve the original artistic intent.

Additionally, the company explicitly stated that DLSS 5 can run on a single GPU. Previous demonstrations of the technology had raised questions about whether two graphics cards were needed to achieve acceptable performance. However, RTX 40 series users cannot expect this new technology for now. NVIDIA confirmed that only GeForce RTX 50 series is supported and did not reveal any plans to bring DLSS 5 to previous-generation graphics cards.

The exact release date for DLSS 5 has not been announced, with NVIDIA only stating it will arrive in fall 2026. Alongside the technology, at least 15 games will offer support, including Starfield, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil Requiem, Phantom Blade Zero, Neverness to Everness, and the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
