NVIDIA recently announced that DLSS 5 will officially launch on September 4, with NBA 2K27 becoming the first game to natively support the technology. At that time, all RTX 50 series GPU owners and GeForce NOW users will be able to experience DLSS 5.
DLSS 5 utilizes AI models and "3D-guided neural rendering" technology to generate richer lighting and material details in real-time for games. NVIDIA states that this technology can make real-time game visuals approach Hollywood-level photorealism. Developers can adjust the final output for each game to bring their artistic visions to life.
Note that native integration of DLSS 5 incurs a 50–60% performance overhead, placing high demands on GPU computational power. Smooth operation at 4K resolution requires an RTX 5090. Since March this year, NVIDIA has improved DLSS 5 model performance by fivefold and will continue to optimize it.
Third-party porting mods like RenoDX, which have circulated online, use leaked test DLLs to forcibly enable DLSS 5 in various games. This results in numerous bugs such as flickering and visual corruption, which do not reflect the performance of the official DLSS 5 release.
A number of major titles have confirmed future updates to support DLSS 5, including Resident Evil 9, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Naraka: Bladepoint, Where Winds Meet, Project Mugen, Delta Force, Starfield, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Remastered. However, specific release dates for these DLSS 5 update patches have not yet been announced.
