2K and developer Gearbox have announced that the Borderlands 4 DLCs "Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Sanctuary" and "Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Shadow of Evil" will be released on September 10.
Story Pack 2 includes the new Vault Hunter "Hacker" Loveless, as well as a new tropical map area called "Providence," filled with missions, collectibles, landmarks, loot, and hordes of Tediore enemies.
Explore the emerald wilderness of Providence
On the remote island of Providence, a tropical resort built exclusively for those chosen by the Timekeepers, nestled beside a majestic volcano, is about to become a war zone. To seize the island's precious Ordium resources, Tediore Corporation has dispatched an expedition led by five elite managers, who serve as the right-hand men of the ruthless Lieutenant Harmony. Players will join forces with the legendary Beastmaster FL4K from Borderlands 3 to save their loyal Skag companion, Mr. Chew, and teach Tediore Corporation a harsh lesson.
The island is teeming with Tediore forces, including soldiers in exoskeleton armor who continue fighting even after their flesh is destroyed, and massive mechs equipped with various weapon attachments that can buff allies and digitally summon reinforcements. After defeating Tediore's regular soldiers, giant war machines, and the elite commanders leading them, players will have the chance to challenge Lieutenant Harmony. However, reaching Lieutenant Harmony's location is itself a challenge, as Tediore has converted the volcano on Providence Island into a combat base. The volcano remains highly active, erupting lava rich in Ordium stone, which spawns mini-bosses upon impact, triggering new world events.
Vertical space is a core element of Providence's map layout, further enhanced by a new movement mechanic: ziplines. Players can use ziplines to climb above the treetops of Providence's jungle, reaching new vantage points or gaining an advantage in combat. Another unique activity in Providence involves uploading into Tediore's multidimensional digital servers to engage enemies at their source before they appear in the real world.
Players who manage to survive the treacherous wilderness of Providence and the Tediore forces occupying it will have the chance to obtain some powerful new loot, including two new pearlescent weapons and 18 legendary items.
Play as the new Vault Hunter: Hacker Loveless
Players will take on the role of Borderlands 4's second new Vault Hunter—Hacker Loveless—and explore the lush jungles of Providence. Once a hacker for the Anshin organization, Loveless has now become an assassin. Equipped with cutting-edge cybernetics, she shares her consciousness with a digital virus she created. This virus can materialize digitally, becoming a deadly extension of her pursuit of perfect will.
Hacker Loveless and her cosmetic items will be sold separately and are not tied to the storyline, map areas, or missions of "Story Pack 2." A deeper look into Loveless's gameplay is coming soon, with dedicated content featuring her in the Gearbox DevCast broadcast on September 3.
"Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Shadow of Evil" brings more content
The arrival of the Elpis satellite has completely transformed the planet Kairos, which now shows signs of falling apart. Leveraging her Siren powers and keen perception of phase energy, Amara has pinpointed a source that could exacerbate the planet's instability: one of Willicker's former laboratories, where Order Synths that once served him lie dormant.
Players will team up with Amara to track down phase disturbances and stop their spread before the known universe is utterly destroyed. This new mission gives players the chance to return to Elpis and the phase dimension connecting all Sirens—both key elements of Borderlands 4's overall story. Additionally, "Bounty Pack 5" delves deeper into the backstory of Sirens and their significance in the Borderlands universe, as Amara faces the dilemma that her connection to the phase may have been permanently severed.
Upon completing the mission, players will unlock a Vault Hunter skin usable by all Vault Hunters, a vehicle, and an ECHO-4 drone skin. Additionally, players can challenge a new boss, two new mini-bosses, and new villain enemy types to earn a new pearlescent weapon and six new legendary items.
"Bounty Pack 5: Vault Card 5" can be purchased separately from the narrative content of "Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Shadow of Evil," allowing players to earn brand-new space-age rewards through gameplay, unlocking 24 cosmetic items and 4 re-randomizable gear pieces.
"Story Pack 2," "Hacker Loveless," and "Bounty Pack 5" will all launch as part of the version 1.10 update on September 10. This update will raise the maximum level cap by 10 levels for all Borderlands 4 players.
Additionally, starting September 10, players will be able to purchase individual DLCs from "Story Pack 1" and "Bounty Pack 2" separately. Previously, only DLCs from "Bounty Pack 3" onward were available for individual purchase. As part of this change, players on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S who own part of "Story Pack 1" or "Bounty Pack 2" will need to re-download the content from the respective pages in their platform stores starting September 10. This is because the individual parts of these DLC packs will be sold separately on console platforms.
