Star Wars: Galactic Racers - 16-Minute Gameplay Preview

A 16-minute hands-on video for "Star Wars: Galactic Racers" has leaked. The game will be released on October 6th. The Standard Edition is priced at 228 CNY and the Deluxe Edition at 318 CNY in the Steam China region, with Simplified Chinese support. The PC version supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 at launch, including Dynamic Frame Generation and second-generation Transformer model super-resolution technology.

Preview from foreign media outlet seasonedgaming:

The game features four main modes: Campaign, Scenario, Arcade, and Multiplayer. Although my skills aren't refined, I could immediately feel that this is a well-designed racing game due to its extremely precise controls. Every action I took during the races matched my expectations perfectly, as evidenced by my frequent crashes or runs off the track.

I played the game for about an hour, spending the first half in Campaign mode and the second half in Arcade mode. Yes, I did experience the Podracer. Let's start with the Campaign mode.

In the campaign mode, the game exudes a strong Star Wars atmosphere, which is evident. From character designs and vehicle models (including the aforementioned Podracers, as well as land speeders, flying motorcycles, and gliders) to the overall ambiance while walking around before races, it perfectly captures the essence. From the prologue through the entire campaign experience, the strong Star Wars vibe consistently impressed me.

The campaign difficulty is surprisingly high. I'm not very good at racing games, and although the game offers difficulty settings, I still struggled. Briefly, the plot involves playing as a specific character joining the Galactic Alliance, where entry tickets are required to compete. I won't go into detail on how to obtain these tickets, but rest assured, if you lose a race without earning more tickets after obtaining one, the campaign ends, and you'll need to start over. The game features very obvious Roguelite elements, which caught me off guard.

Speaking of characters, while there are some simple customization options for character appearance, the demo doesn't offer many choices. However, I must highly praise the voice acting of all the characters I encountered; their voices were excellent. It's impressive that a game which looks like a simple racer at first glance places such emphasis on its storyline.

I mentioned the Roguelite elements earlier, so let me elaborate. As the story progresses, you unlock abilities that enhance your vehicle's attributes. Therefore, each time you fail and restart, you'll be stronger than before. Since I didn't play for long (and failed early on), I didn't have much chance to experience this fully, but judging by the menu interface, there's plenty to unlock and upgrade.

Meanwhile, the racing mechanics are quite deep. From kinetic burst acceleration gained through jumps to combustion status effects that cause vehicles to overheat faster, it has it all. Additionally, players have a limited number of "crashes" allowed per race; exceeding this limit results in a loss and the forfeiture of the league entry token for that attempt. The allowed number of "crashes" varies depending on the race difficulty.

Overall, the level of vehicle customization exceeded my expectations. The Roguelite elements allow you to progress even after being eliminated, making this game definitely worth a try if you enjoy this genre. Seizing every opportunity to upgrade your vehicle, improve performance, and advance the story makes this an engaging title for racing game enthusiasts.

Regarding Arcade mode and Podracers, there's no doubt that Podracers are extremely fast and incredibly cool. When driving a Podracer, you can absolutely feel that it's faster than any other vehicle in the game. It's said that Podracers will also be added to the Campaign mode later, but if the Arcade mode experience is representative of the Campaign, racing game enthusiasts are sure to have a blast.

Arcade mode lets you choose from various race types, maps, and vehicles. Clearly, it's designed for players who just want to race casually without the pressure and constraints of the campaign mode. I think this is great because sometimes you just want to jump into a race without worries and enjoy pure fun.

"Fun" is the perfect word to sum up this demo experience. Although the game is clearly flawed, I had much more fun playing it than I expected. Personally, I haven't decided whether to purchase it upon its official release, but I can confidently say that this game is tailor-made for racing game enthusiasts and Star Wars fans.
