Many reviews noted that while the demo for Mortal Shell 2 was impressive, the full release fell short. "As you progress, the level and enemy design becomes increasingly perfunctory, with the late game largely consisting of reskinned assets, enemy spam, and simply multiplying minion stats."
Some players have also pointed out that the developer engaged in "demo fraud," with the version sent to media differing from the player's official release—even the stone passive abilities are different. The satisfying experience praised in many media reviews is completely absent in the official release, which even introduces frustrating elements like enemy spam and inflated stats.
