Recently, gaming blogger GermanStrands released a video comparing the combat scenes of "Black MYTH - Steam Edition: Zhong Kui" and "Black MYTH - Steam Edition: Wukong." Let's take a look!
Comparison Video:
The blogger stated that using an early version of "Wukong" for comparison aims to observe the iterative trajectory of Game Science's technology and action design. Although both titles share the same engine and development pipeline, their combat designs have taken completely different directions. Many players remarked after watching the comparison that they could clearly see the team's technical accumulation. Others expressed even greater anticipation for "Zhong Kui."
The early demo of "Wukong" primarily featured the staff as its weapon, with broad and powerful moves emphasizing suppression and area attacks. Its combat loop relied on staff stance, transformations, and hair clones. In contrast, "Zhong Kui" switches to a long sword as the main weapon, featuring sharper and heavier strikes with a greater focus on blade clashes, blocking, and parries. It also introduces talismanic arts, imp summoning, and possession mechanics. The spiritual power resource replaces the previous game's staff stance system, shifting the combat rhythm towards exploiting enemy openings for counterattacks, creating a more intense atmosphere of demon hunting. "Zhong Kui" inherits the studio's accumulated expertise in action, animation, and rendering technologies but refuses to be a simple reskin, instead redesigning the entire combat logic.
