Recently, Rob Nelson, Head of Development at Rockstar Games, stated in an interview with IGN that GTA 6 is Rockstar's largest story-driven open-world project to date. Development began after the release of GTA V, spanning 13 years so far, with the project's scale continuously expanding throughout the process.
Nelson believes the game world of GTA 6 has reached an astonishing scale. Among the thousands of employees involved in its development, no one fully knows all the content. The map is twice the size of GTA V and three times that of Red Dead Redemption 2. The main story alone exceeds 80 hours, highlighting its immense scope.
The development team is also aware that massive open worlds often suffer from hollow content. To address this, GTA 6 features hundreds of diverse events and activities to fill its vast map.
Even years after their release, many players continue to discover new content in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Given the sheer volume of content in GTA 6, it will likely take players several years to uncover all its secrets.
GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, with a PC version to follow later.
