Marvel does not intend to limit itself to just a new X-Men trilogy. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated that the team has a large reserve of comic book stories that have not yet been brought to the screen.
At D23, Marvel revealed the main cast for the new film: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Samara Weaving as the White Queen, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Hawke as Storm, and Christopher Abbott as Professor X. Feige pointed out that Marvel deliberately assembled a young cast. According to him, this will allow the studio to continue telling these characters' stories for many years to come.
"We have nearly 90 years of comic book history, and a vast amount of stories waiting to be told. We've announced a very young new cast for X-Men, which is great. There have already been 10 excellent X-Men films, but we could make another 100," said Feige.
The Marvel Studios president added that there could be "legendary chapters one after another" in the future, all based on comic storylines that have yet to be adapted for film or television. The new team is gradually being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jean Grey has already made her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while the full X-Men film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
Prior to this, Marvel will conclude the stories of the older generation of mutants in Avengers: Doomsday, with actors from the Fox-era films such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden making a return.
