GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in history, with many experts predicting it will be an instant success. However, Rob Nelson, head of Rockstar North, stated that the studio feels "nervous" about the upcoming release, worried about whether it can live up to the expectations players have built over the past 13 years.
Nelson told IGN, "I try not to think about it too much. Of course, you're aware of it. But I think we have to strive to create something that builds upon and innovates from our previous works, while still feeling familiar."
Nelson went on to say that the external pressure Rockstar faces to deliver a great game with GTA 6 is "nothing" compared to "the pressure we put on ourselves."
"Everyone wants things to be perfect. We're nervous! Of course we are, but also incredibly excited to see how people react to this trailer and the final game. For us, it's definitely a step forward in every aspect—the scale of the world and how it feels. When you actually get into the game and see such dense traffic, such a dense population, and the genuine player feedback, it's quite overwhelming."
Parent company Take-Two stated that part of the reason for GTA 6's delayed release is Rockstar's pursuit of "perfection."
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that Rockstar prioritizes polishing the game over rushing its release, stating, "We strive for perfection, and the best time to launch is when we feel we've reached the optimal creative state."
Zelnick added, "There may be an inherent tension between getting a product to market and pursuing perfection. But this company would rather pursue perfection."
GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
