Bungie's extraction shooter Marathon has been live for less than six months, yet the player churn rate on PC Steam has already exceeded 95%.
Recently, Marathon's peak concurrent player count on Steam has struggled to reach even 5,000. In the past 24 hours, the extraction shooter's peak concurrent players stood at just 3,783.
The player base on the platform has plummeted from a peak of 88,337, dropping by approximately 96% over the past five months. While Steam data doesn't represent all platforms, reports indicate that the extraction shooter sells best on PC, making it hard to imagine the situation being any better on PS5.
Preparations for Marathon's third season are underway, but this may be one of the last chances for the game to regain momentum. At this rate, it wouldn't be surprising if PlayStation cancels the project and redirects Bungie's efforts elsewhere.
