Recently, 4A Games unveiled a new gameplay trailer for "Metro 2039" titled "Renegade," showcasing mechanics such as customizable weapon modifications and stealth takedowns. The game is scheduled to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic) in February 2027. It will be a single-player experience without any multiplayer modes, where player choices will influence the storyline and character fates.

All iconic survival mechanics from the Metro series return: managing gas mask filters, wiping the visor, on-the-spot weapon modifications, hand-cranked chargers, and using a lighter to burn away spiderwebs. A batch of new tools has also been added: UV lights can reveal hidden messages and expose mutated creatures in the dark; welding torches can melt through sealed doors; and a new pneumatic homemade weapon called "Shatun" allows for low-noise stealth kills using bearing projectiles, capable of penetrating heavily armored enemies. Weapon upgrades require collecting blueprints, and workbenches can be used to modify components such as barrels, sights, and protective attachments. Combat blends stealth and direct firefights, with mutant monsters and soldiers of the New Empire serving as primary adversaries. Some enemies are equipped with gear designed to suppress mutants, adding extra pressure to survival.
"Metro 2039" features a visually upgraded experience powered by an iterated version of 4A's proprietary engine. Compared to "Metro EXODUS™," it offers significantly improved realism in outdoor lighting, object details, and environmental atmosphere, with numerous scenes featuring rainy nights, radioactive fog, and dilapidated ruins, continuing the series' oppressive and gloomy post-apocalyptic ambiance. While the game may have higher hardware requirements, corresponding optimizations will be completed for the Xbox Series S.
