According to current information, the anonymous group responsible for the leak could face up to 50 years in prison. It is reported that the FBI has begun tracking down these criminals.
Starting August 18, 2026, a hacker operating under the name CyberLeek posted dozens of gameplay videos, a map of Leonida State, and other materials from an early version of GTA 6 online. The group did not hide its motives, publicly stating that the leak was a protest against the digital economy of the gaming industry.
Alongside the leak, the hackers actively promoted a virtual token called $CYBERLEEK on the Solana blockchain, claiming they were raising funds for "secret projects" and to cover legal defense costs. Despite the high-profile hacking activity, their identities have not been officially confirmed, and no arrests have been made so far. However, it is reported that the FBI has launched an investigation. One key topic of online discussion is the potential prison sentence. The figure of "50 years in prison" has appeared on social networks and in the media, but neither the FBI, Rockstar Games, nor Take-Two has issued any official comment on this matter.
The investigation may make progress through digital footprints. According to journalists, the IP addresses potentially used by the hackers point to servers hosted by the German provider Hetzner. Another theory suggests that the leak was achieved by compromising an employee at Rockstar's India branch, where a development build of the game may have been stored.
