RX 9050 Performance Test: 20% Behind RTX 5050 at 1080P

AMD launched the Radeon RX 9050 in late July, exclusively for markets in Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Japan. The card is not sold in China, so the lack of reviews there is normal. However, few media outlets worldwide have published reviews either, primarily because AMD did not provide review samples.

According to Hardware Unboxed, AMD also prohibited its partners from sending out samples. As a result, they obtained the graphics card through unofficial channels for testing but did not disclose the specific model or brand.

The Radeon RX 9050 features 16 Compute Units (CUs) based on the RDNA 4 architecture, totaling 1,024 stream processors—half the scale of the RX 9060 XT. It includes 32MB of Infinity Cache, with a game GPU frequency of 1920MHz and a boost frequency up to 2600MHz. Its Total Board Power (TBP) is just 92W, requiring only a single 8-pin power connector. In terms of memory, the 8GB version has a 128-bit memory interface using 18Gbps GDDR6 memory, resulting in a bandwidth of 288GB/s. The 4GB version is aimed solely at the OEM market, with its memory interface halved to 64-bit and memory bandwidth reduced to half that of the 8GB model.

At 1080p resolution, the RX 9050 averages 49FPS across ten games. The RTX 5050 outperforms it by 20%, while the RX 7600 is 22% faster. Its performance is even inferior to Intel's Arc A770.

At 2K resolution, the RX 9050 averages 33fps in games, performing similarly to the RTX 5050, while the RX 7600 still performs slightly better. They stated that the card's performance does not match its price, with low power consumption being its biggest advantage. The suggested retail price is around $280, and they recommend considering used graphics cards, the Intel Arc B580, or spending more for the RX 9060 XT.
