Microsoft Xbox has begun removing PlayStation 5 platform labels from trailers for its multi-platform game releases. Recent signs indicate that the trailer for Minecraft Dungeons 2, posted last week on the official Xbox YouTube channel, only listed Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms, whereas the same game's trailer released during Summer Game Fest earlier included labels for PS5, Steam, Switch, and Switch 2.
During Summer Game Fest this past May, Xbox faced controversy due to inconsistent statements from its executives. Chief Content Officer Matt Booty stated in a pre-arranged Xbox Wire interview that Xbox would accurately display PS5 labels for multi-platform games during their showcase livestream. However, this statement drew backlash from some fans, leading new CEO Asha Sharma to publicly admit, "This was a mistake, and I take responsibility," hinting that the company would make adjustments in the future.
The latest Minecraft Dungeons 2 trailer serves as one of the first examples of this adjustment. Additionally, the new Fable trailer posted on social media over the weekend omitted any platform information entirely.
Trailers uploaded to the official PlayStation channel typically only label PS5 or PS4 platforms, as Sony generally does not sell first-party games on competitor platforms (with few exceptions like MLB The Show and Helldivers 2). Sharma had previously stated that adjustments would be made, and it now appears she is simply following through on that promise. In the future, players may need to put in more effort to determine whether a Microsoft-owned game will be released on PS5.
