The latest details for GTA VI have been revealed, showing further advancements in gunfights, weapons, and movement.
GTA VI introduces significant changes to combat and interactions. The game not only reshapes weapon carrying and vehicle interaction logic (such as handing guns between characters, exclusive vehicle storage limits, and dynamic NPC reactions to weapon stances), but also raises the bar for gunfights by shifting towards more challenging default free-aiming with strong recoil ballistics. Combined with hidden enemies on the minimap, tiered hit feedback, and perspective and tactical actions inherited from Red Dead Redemption 2, it creates a more immersive and strategic combat experience for players.
Latest Details:
Jason and Lucia can hand weapons to each other directly, allowing players to transfer weapons between the two characters.
GTA VI defaults to free-aiming rather than traditional strong aim assist. Some aim stickiness is still available in the settings and can be adjusted.
Long guns can be stored in any vehicle, but only personal vehicles permanently retain the selected full loadout. Temporary vehicles do not have this persistent storage capability.
NPC reactions depend on how weapons are carried. Carrying a long gun on your back usually won't cause trouble, but holding one in your hand may make pedestrians avoid you. Police may issue warnings, and if you are in a ready-to-fire stance, the situation will escalate.
Enemies do not appear on the minimap during combat, continuing the previously revealed change where police also do not appear on the minimap.
Hit markers provide different feedback during combat: white for normal hits, yellow when enemies are incapacitated, and red for kills.
Players can always carry two concealed handguns and up to two long guns. Only one long gun can be stored on the character's back, meaning the second must be held in hand.
Compared to GTA V, weapons have noticeably stronger recoil and impact. In preview demos, assault rifles require more controlled short bursts and single shots to maintain accuracy.
Kill cams can be turned off, and the quick weapon switching feature has returned.
Players can strafe while crouching. The cover button remains mapped to R1 on PlayStation, and the shoulder-switching feature from Red Dead Redemption 2 has returned.
Players can customize their default movement speed, with options including normal walking or faster jogging.
