The switch to Unreal Engine 5 for The Witcher 4 has led many players to worry that the game will share the same art style as other major Unreal Engine 5 titles. However, the development team has stated that this will not be the case.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski discussed the transition to Unreal Engine 5 and its impact on the studio.
As is well known, the REDengine has a unique style and visuals, while many people feel that games made with Unreal Engine 5 look somewhat generic. Michal Nowakowski explained that The Witcher 4 will distinguish itself from other games thanks to its unique approach to the engine.
"We won't make (another game with an art style typical of Unreal Engine). We can truly stand out."
He stated that the game's technology is not important to most players. The development team worked closely with Epic Games and paid special attention to ensuring that The Witcher 4 retained the unique elements that have been a hallmark of CDPR's recent works.
Of course, Unreal Engine 5 has already been used to create many games with distinct visual styles, such as Marvel Rivals, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, fully demonstrating how diverse the visuals can be when Unreal Engine 5 games are adjusted and adopt different art styles. Therefore, CDPR hopes that The Witcher 4 can establish its own unique style in a similar way.
