Falcom Discusses The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd Remake: Undecided, but a Remake is Inevitable

In a new interview commemorating the upcoming release of Trails in the Sky SC, Nihon Falcom President and CEO Toshihiro Kondo spoke with ASCII Japan about the studio's future release plans, covering both remakes and mainline titles.

One of the biggest questions fans have is whether Trails in the Sky the 3rd will receive a full 3D remake like its two predecessors. According to Kondo, while the company's official stance remains "undecided," he personally finds it hard to imagine not remaking the game. "In fact, as we were finishing up work on SC, staff members started asking me, 'Can we start working on the 3rd?' The internal enthusiasm was so high that I definitely want to do it at some point," he said.

Meanwhile, Kondo is fully aware of the player community's anticipation for the continuation of the main Trails series. Discussing the ongoing Calvard arc, he stated that Nihon Falcom "can't drag things out any longer." As such, the studio is working hard to announce new information to fans as soon as possible. Additionally, Kondo reiterated his intention to bring the Calvard story arc to a close sooner rather than later. "I know players might say, 'That's just the president saying he wants to wrap it up' (laughs). But since the previous game ended right when the plot was really heating up, I want to provide some form of conclusion in the next one."

As for the Trails series as a whole, Kondo confirmed that there are no changes to the plan to enter the series' "final phase" after completing the Calvard arc. That said, the team currently only has a rough idea of how this will unfold. "Nothing specific has been decided yet regarding how we will proceed," Kondo stated.
